Millbrae, CA -- Since the successful Tokyo exhibition last November and under fervent supports among friends, Bay Area Chinese artist Jeff Lu has endeavored toward an eight-day solo exhibition to be held at the Nan-Hai Art Center, Millbrae, on March 22, 2008. Lu wishes to deliver these master pieces of his creation as a new year’s gift to the art loves in the Bay Area.
Residing in the San Francisco Bay Area currently, Lu has received rigorous art training in his early years in China, thus laying a solid foundation for his artistic presentation. After his arrival in the US in pursuit of an advanced study two decades ago, Lu not only studied artistic theories in the field of Western painting, which deepened his artistic attainments in the immense realm of creativity, but he also earned the opportunity in making comparison, interpreting, and conducting researches between Eastern and Western arts. By immersing himself into two diverse and different artistic worlds, Lu thus developed his own unique and personal perception and presentation in his paintings. Furthermore, Lu’s long-term engagement in professional journalism has also earned him many opportunities with in-depth understanding of a diverse aspect of the American society - politically, economically, technologically, culturally, as well as artistically. All these real-life experiences have enhanced his sensitivity, creativity, and wisdom of life.
With such abundant experiences and extensive horizons, Lu is well equipped with keen perspective, profound comprehensibility, and precise expression, all of which undoubtedly distinguishes him. The physical image of Lu’s creativity, either representational or abstract, always presents an in-depth interpretation and view toward his philosophy of life. By applying the traditional Chinese ink and color brushes of painting, combined with in-depth inspirations from Western culture and techniques, Lu’s endless passion for creativity blossoms into amazing artworks. Lu’s artistic styles and charms can be described as ingenuity, eclectic expressions, and harmony between the Eastern and the Western. All people who appreciate Lu’s paintings deeply appreciate his distinctive and unique artistic expressions.
There are going to be 30 art pieces at this upcoming exhibition, all of which come from Lu’s recent creation entitled “Affinity of Four Realms”. The inspiration for the series derives from Lu’s passion for the natural landscape. In addition to centering on the natural beauties as the main theme of delineation, these pieces also consistently deliver Lu’s tacit “inner world”, thus presenting a sense of in-depth profundity of nature and life. The theme “Acclamation: Affinity of Four Realms” aims to show Lu’s wish in highlighting the abundance and wonders of nature, which he strives to share with those who have great ardor for arts.
In order for art lovers in the Bay Area to gain knowledge of the creative process of Chinese ink painting and to fully enjoy the exhibition “Acclamation-Affinity of Four Realms”, we have arranged a program featuring “Face to Face with Jeff Lu”. During the program, our guests of honor will glimpse into the mysterious world of mounting while enjoying finger food in a relaxed atmosphere. Through Jeff Lu’s introduction and illusion, our guests will have a hands-on experience to practice and learn techniques of mounting a Chinese-Ink painting, and witness and be amazed by the wisdom displayed through ancient techniques of mounting, such as leveling the painting of ruffled and thin paper into a perfectly smooth surface. This free-of-charge, lively, and interesting activity will absolutely be a worthwhile trip.
Having committed to giving back to the community, Lu will offer, as a donation, one master piece – “Midnight Forest” from the series “Affinity of Four Realms” – to the Fremont Union High Schools Foundation serving five high schools including Cupertino High, Fremont High, Homestead High, Lynbrook High, and Monta Vista High. “Midnight Forest” will be auctioned off in the upcoming Foundation’s Crab Feed at the De Anza College gym in Cupertino on April 4, 2008. With its distinctive compositional sketch and profound conception, “Midnight Forest” had earned high praises during Lu’s solo exhibition held in Tokyo last November, making it a wonderful collector’s piece. 自去年十一月在日本東京取得成功的展出後，定居於灣區的華裔畫家陸源(Jeff Lu)在眾多好友的熱情支持下，經過數月的整理和籌畫，謹定于3月22日在 “美國南海藝術中心(Nan-Han Art Center)”舉辦為期八天的個人畫展，除以饗長期支持他的老朋友外，更以這些精美的傑作，做為獻給灣區喜愛繪畫藝術朋友的一份迎新禮物。
目前定居舊金山灣區的陸源，祖籍江蘇省太倉市，早年在國內接受嚴格的系統藝術訓練，具有扎實的傳統繪畫根底。20年前赴美負薪留學，不僅研習了西方繪畫教育的理論，讓他在浩大的藝術殿堂中不斷地吸收養分充實自己，也讓他有機會在兩個不同文化藝術領域去比較、解讀和研究，累積了深厚的個人心得；此外，因著長久從事新聞工作的緣故，同樣也讓他有機會深度接觸美國社會的各個層面，舉凡政治、經濟、科技、文化、藝術到生活，他無一不涉入，累積了大量的人生智慧。
正是有了如此丰富的經歷和廣闊的視野，陸源無疑具備了與眾不同的敏銳的觀察力、深刻的理解力以及精确的表達力。在陸源筆下的“物象”﹐無論是具象或是抽象，總是流露出一種對人生哲理更深層面的解釋和看法。通過中國繪畫筆墨和色彩的運用，並借助東西文化撞擊產生的創作激情和靈感，來凸現個人對於人生“酸、甜、苦、辣”的深刻體驗，充分展現出“心手合一、兼收並蓄、學貫中西”的個人風采，凡是親眼觀賞過陸源作品的朋友都可看出他的與眾不同之處。
此次展出的作品總數約為30幅，全數取自於陸源近年來的精心創作《四境情緣》系列。此系列的創作靈感主要來自於他一向熱愛的大自然景觀。但雖然描繪的內容以大自然景觀為主，其中更多的是傳達出陸源不常外顯的“內心世界”。因此，展品可謂張張精采，饒富深度。展覽取名《頌讚‧四境情緣》，主要因為陸源希望透過這些作品的呈現，一方面彰顯出大自然的豐富和奇妙，另一方面希望能與灣區的朋友在新春之際共享這份豐富和奇妙，以為新的一年揭開美麗的序幕。
除作品展示外，為讓灣區喜愛繪畫藝術的朋友能從此次畫展中獲得最大的樂趣，對中國水墨畫的創作過程有更具體的了解，展期中還安排了一個與陸源面對面的溫馨小聚。聚會中，與會嘉賓除能在陸源的親自導覽下觀賞作品外，更重要的是，還將在陸源的示範下，一探中國畫完成手續─托畫─的奧秘，並親身實際參與托畫手續，把一張畫在皺皺的、薄薄的宣紙上的作品，托成一件平整的作品，親眼見識宣紙的變化，體驗中國老祖宗的偉大智慧。

Artist's Word
I have always had strong passions for natural landscapes ever since I was a child. While I'm out traveling or sketching, my heart would often reach out and echo the fantastic natural sceneries around me, and I would then return to my studio with an irremediable impulse and desire to create the eye-catching, heart-felt natural beauties that mother-earth offers us.
After experiencing the exploration through the series titled “Rice Village”, I develop the urge to further put “the id” that is most respected in the western art into my works since I firmly believe that a genuine valuable art must possess two special qualities, one is sufficient to reflect the inner world of the author and the other to reflect the meaning of the World.
In this series titled “Affinity of Four Realms’, though the truly beautiful landscapes of Mother Nature dominate the content of the paintings, more messages about my “id” are conveyed. I expect this series works featuring “Beauty of Nature” can present my emotion to give a clear picture of my personal view about Life & Nature Beauty concept as well as trigger the audience’s exploration into human’s common emotions. Once you have found any specific phenomenon in my works, it would be one emitting from my inner world imperceptibly.
I sincerely welcome your coming and hope my works will bring joy and meaning to your life.

我自小對於自然景觀就有著一種強烈的熱愛，每當在外寫生或旅遊時看到令人眼睛一亮的奇異風景，内心的悸動總是廻盪不已，以至回到畫室後能產生一股不可收拾的創作衝動和欲望。
在經過《稻香人家》的探索過程後，我更進一步的計畫把西方藝術最重視的「自我」放入作品之中，因為我相信真正有價值的藝術必定擁有兩個特質，一是能反映時代意義，二就是能反映創作者個人的內心世界。
在最新的創作系列《四境情緣》裡，我透過對於〈夜〉〈光〉〈地〉〈水〉等四種大自然現象的描寫，希望讓生活在現代社會的大眾，從中領略出我們賴以維生的大自然是如此的神奇美妙，進而不僅能從中吸取它豐富的養料，更能珍惜它的可貴。此外，雖然整個系列描繪的是自然景觀，其中更多的是彰顯出我發自內心的「自我」。
經過三年多的努力，《四境情緣》的創作工作已進入尾聲。為了給予這逾千日辛勤付出的一個回顧和紀念，我在眾多好友支持及協助下舉辦了此次名為「頌讚•四境情緣」的個人畫展。我希望藉由此次展出，一方面頌讚出大自然的異彩多姿，另一方面能與灣區的朋友在新春之際分享這份探索藝術的創作成果，為新的一年提供一個美麗的序幕。
展覽中每件作品皆可謂是我生命中不可切割的一部分，表達了我對大自然生命的珍惜與情感。我衷心的感謝您的光臨與賜教，也期盼這些作品能為您的生活帶來某些樂趣或意義。
